Our leaflet, Help us to help you, has more information about repeat prescriptions.
Your own doctor will decide if the medicine you are taking can be continued without you coming back to see them. If not, you will not be able to request a repeat prescription. Patients on repeat prescriptions still require a review periodically - this may be face to face - with a GP or one of our nurses, or it could be by telephone or e-Consult if you and your GP agree this is appropriate. These are generally at six or 12 month intervals. There will be a note on your 'repeat slip' (the white, right hand side of the prescription form), when your review is due.
We can transmit prescriptions to pharmacies locally. This is quick and secure, if you would like us to do this, please visit your chosen pharmacy and complete an 'EPS Nomination Form. We also have arrangements with all Alton and Four Marks chemists to collect prescriptions so that they can be made up ready for patients to collect. If you wish to take advantage of this service, please indicate your chosen chemist at the bottom of your form.
If you are using the online service there is a white box at the end for you to type in your destination request.
Some chemists will deliver prescriptions, but this needs to be discussed with the chemist.
We tend to give medicines in 1 or 2 monthly prescriptions. Giving larger quantities tends to increase the amount of wastage. In our area, prescriptions cost the NHS £14 million per year, of that, £1 million is thrown away. Please help us to reduce this awful waste of resources;
Some conditions qualify for free prescriptions. If this applies in your case the chemist or your doctor will give you the appropriate form to complete.
For those that pay, a single prescription currently costs £9.35 (from April 2017). If you have multiple medications it may be cheaper to get a pre-payment certificate for repeat prescriptions. These are cost-effective if you require more than 13 items over the course of a year, or more than three items in three months. Your pharmacy will have more details, or you can apply online at http://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/1127.aspx
